KatadataOTO – The 2025 Honda CB650R model was officially launched a few days ago. This big bike (Big Bike) offers a variety of updates.

One of them is the E-Clutch, an electronic clutch system claimed to make things easier for the owner.

This feature on the Honda CB650R is believed to provide comfort to the rider during the journey.

“In principle, it's like an underbone motorcycle; if you want to change gears (transmission), you don't need to press the clutch lever,” said Ade Muhajir, from the Technical Service Division of Astra Honda Motor (AHM) in Jakarta, on Thursday (19/06).

Ade further explained that the E-Clutch on the Honda CB650R is not much different from the quick shifter found on racing bikes.

However, there are some differences. For example, when using a quick shifter, you still have to press the clutch lever when shifting from neutral to first gear.

“Whereas with the E-Clutch, you can go from neutral to first (without pressing the clutch), even when the engine is idling,” Ade continued.

However, the Honda E-Clutch system on the CB650R is still the same as on motorcycles in general.

From the clutch lever, cable, to the clutch plate mechanism, it is similar to conventional two-wheeled vehicles.

The only difference is that a component containing two motors or servos has been added to the right-side clutch case.

These two motors move a shaft that is directly connected to the transmission part containing the clutch plates.

So, when the E-Clutch mode is activated by the rider, these two servos will move, replacing the role of the fingers pressing the clutch lever.

“The Engine Control Module (ECM) and the Motor Control Unit (MCU) communicate with each other,” Ade explained.

Ade revealed that the ECM will receive signals from the engine. Meanwhile, the MCU gets information from the clutch angle sensor as well as the countershaft speed sensor, so the speed can be read.

Nevertheless, there is still an option for the rider to turn off the E-Clutch. And what if they accidentally press the clutch lever.
