Yamaha is currently looking for the right formula to market the Neos electric motorcycle to consumers in Indonesia.

KatadataOTO – Yamaha has introduced two electric motorcycles in Indonesia. However, the Japanese brand has yet to sell their Electric Vehicles (EVs).
In fact, Yamaha had conducted a trial on the Neos model. They even involved online motorcycle taxi (ojol) drivers.
Unfortunately, the future of the Yamaha Neos electric motorcycle in the country is still being kept under wraps.
“The test is indeed a direct project from YMC (Yamaha Motor Company),” said Rifki Maulana, Manager of Public Relations, YRA & Community at YIMM in Jakarta.
According to Rifki, Yamaha Indonesia only facilitated the trial activities for the Neos electric motorcycle in the country.
He stated that Yamaha Motor Company is still conducting various evaluations from this step.
“The initial target was actually three months, but it might be extended,” said Rifki.
Furthermore, Rifki explained that Yamaha is still looking for the right formula to sell electric two-wheeled vehicles in the country.
Starting from sales strategy, battery model, to the needs of domestic electric motorcycle consumers.
“YMC is looking for a strategy on how to collaborate with YIMM to find the most efficient electric motorcycle launch for Indonesia,” Rifki emphasized.
However, he could not yet confirm when the Yamaha Neos will hit the roads in Indonesia and be available for consumers.
As a reminder, Yamaha is collaborating with a ride-sharing company to evaluate the performance of electric vehicles with a battery swap system operated by driver partners to support urban mobility.
“Through this project, we will see how effective Yamaha EV vehicles are in supporting urban mobility and also their business potential,” said Satoshi Takagi, Director of PT Yamaha Indonesia Motor Mfg.
He hopes this study can produce relevant information about the best environmentally friendly vehicles for Indonesian consumers.
To support smooth operations, Yamaha has collaborated with related parties to provide independent battery exchange stations at various points in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek).
Thanks to the provision of independent battery swap stations, Yamaha can study the entire electric motorcycle battery handling ecosystem, from upstream to downstream.
It should be noted that the Yamaha Neos is equipped with a motor that produces 2.3 kW or 3.0 hp. Meanwhile, its peak torque reaches 138.3 Nm.
This performance is supported by a 51.1 V, 23.2 Ah lithium-ion/BFM1 battery. It is claimed to be able to travel as far as 72 km on a full battery.
