KatadataOTO – The implementation of ETLE tickets will be optimized by the South Sumatra provincial government. At least 17 regencies and cities in the region will implement it to increase public awareness of traffic order.

The implementation of the ETLE system in South Sumatra has actually been carried out since February 1, 2022. At that time, only the city of Palembang had the facilities, but now it has expanded.

“Now it is starting to be developed in all other regencies and cities and needs to be optimized. Because it is indeed effective in increasing the local community's awareness of traffic order," said Herman Deru, Governor of South Sumatra.

According to him, the presence of dozens of surveillance cameras on various main roads in Palembang City and the region has successfully made the public more compliant with traffic rules. This is because surveillance is now in place 24 hours a day.

People are now afraid to break the rules when driving, even when conditions are quiet and there are no traffic police officers on the road.

"People who pass through roads in the ETLE area will automatically be ticketed if they do not wear a helmet, seat belt, or commit other traffic violations," he said.

The positive impact felt has made the Governor of South Sumatra support the optimization of the electronic ticketing system.

"To support the optimization of the ETLE system, I have donated the land and building of the former Samsat Palembang office to the South Sumatra Regional Police Traffic Directorate," explained Herman Deru.

Meanwhile, Police Commissioner Nandang Mu'min, Head of Public Relations for the South Sumatra Regional Police, revealed that the number of traffic violations caught by the ETLE system reaches thousands per month.

This number is expected to continue to decrease as public awareness of traffic rules increases.

People who receive an ETLE ticket do not need to be confused about how to pay the fine. As there are several methods to choose from.
