KatadataOTO – The automotive industry will face many obstacles in 2025. Starting from a weakening economy, credit tightening, to the plummeting exchange rate of the rupiah against the dollar.

This condition is predicted to continue into the 2026 period, meaning all parties cannot just stand by.

One of them is the Indonesian Automotive Journalists Forum (Forwot). They recently held their annual touring and discussion event.

The event took place in Sentul, West Java, on January 23–24, 2026, with the theme ‘Indonesia's Automotive Outlook 2026’.

The event began with a gathering at the Yamaha Mekar Cibinong Dealer. Then, 100 Forwot members headed to RDM Villa.

The chosen route was Jalan Raya Bogor, Summarecon, Sentul, Bukit Pelangi, and ended at the event location.

“Touring is one of Forwot's annual flagship events, where besides building camaraderie and having fun, we also exchange information and education,” said Arie Prasetya, Chairman of Forwot.

Arie explained that the members didn't just go touring, but also participated in a discussion event with several speakers.

These included Rifat Sungkar, a rally driver and brand ambassador for PT Mitsubishi Motors Krama Yudha Sales Indonesia (MMKSI).

Rifat shared his views on why the Mitsubishi Destinator has now become a new favorite, especially among women.

Additionally, Forwot also collaborated with Mohamad Ilham Pratama, Head of Marketing for Jaecoo Indonesia. He revealed the strategy for facing the new car market in 2026.

This included government regulations, products, and innovations that Jaecoo wants to present to consumers.

“2026 will not be an easy year for the automotive industry with all its dynamics. Hopefully, all participating members can get the latest information from the speakers and then pass it on to their readers and viewers,” said Arie.

A similar sentiment was expressed by Jeffry Yanto Sudibyo, the Chief Executive of the 2026 Forwot Touring. He stated that the speakers presented were relevant to the trends and dynamics of the Indonesian automotive industry.

Through this activity, it is hoped to provide understanding as a provision for Forwot members in presenting information.

“This year, the automotive industry is faced with regulatory uncertainty, increased competitiveness due to the presence of new brands, and changes in lifestyle,” said Jeffry.

Therefore, Forwot held a discussion packaged within a touring session to discuss the challenges of the automotive industry in 2026.
