KatadataOTO – The police have confirmed that a point deduction system for traffic violators will take effect this year. It is hoped that the public will be more disciplined while driving to reduce the risk of accidents.
Ticket The point system has actually been proposed for a long time, but its implementation has not yet been carried out for various reasons.
"The parameters for safety data regarding public driving behavior on the road are traffic violations and accidents," said the Head of the National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas Polri), Inspector General Aan Suhanan, as reported by Antara (06/01).
He explained that everyone who has a Driver's License (SIM) will receive 12 points per year. If a minor violation is committed, one point will be deducted.
Then, if a moderate violation is committed, three points will be deducted. Furthermore, if a serious violation is committed, five points will be deducted.
"If an accident occurs that results in a fatality, 12 points will be deducted immediately. Even a hit-and-run can result in the immediate revocation of the driver's license (SIM)," explained the Head of Korlantas Polri.
For those who commit violations until their points run out within a year, the police will confiscate or block the driver's SIM.
"Later, at the time of renewal, the test must be retaken. But in the case of a hit-and-run, it can be permanently revoked," he then emphasized.
To be more disciplined and create a deterrent effect, the point system will be integrated with the issuance of the Police Clearance Certificate (SKCK).
"We provide a record of how many times this SIM has committed traffic violations, how many times it has been involved in traffic accidents," he explained.
In addition to the point system, Korlantas will also tighten driver supervision through electronic ticketing or electronic traffic law enforcement (ETLE).
"This is one of the efforts to provide legal certainty to the public," he asserted.
