KatadataOTO had the opportunity to briefly test the latest Jaecoo J8 SUV in both normal and off-road conditions.
It is worth noting that the Jaecoo J8 uses a 2,000 cc turbocharged engine. It is claimed that this car can produce 245 hp and a peak torque of 385 Nm, delivered to all wheels.
In the second session, the Jaecoo J8 was taken to tackle offroad terrain in Marinos. Sitting in the second row, we felt that the J8's comfort could be maintained even as the vehicle went through bumpy roads and extreme inclines.
The adaptive suspension helps keep the cabin conditions stable and dampens shocks well.
Jaecoo's AWD technology, or Ardis, was demonstrated in the offroad area. It features four-wheel vectoring, where torque is distributed individually and differently to each tire according to the terrain being traversed.
As a result, the Jaecoo J8 easily passed through potholed inclines. The 385 Nm of torque means the driver has no difficulty when going uphill.
The driver can also utilize seven different driving modes, from normal to offroad. The steering and suspension response, according to Jaecoo, will vary depending on the active mode.
The Jaecoo J8 is capable of wading through water up to 600 mm deep. This adds peace of mind for owners who want to take the car to offroad terrain.
After a brief test, we conclude that the Jaecoo J8 SUV can be an attractive option with a competitive price, sold for under Rp 1 billion.
This is because in a similar class, cars with offroad specifications generally have a tough and rugged design.
Meanwhile, the J8 is wrapped in an elegant, premium SUV-style appearance. Then, not only do passengers experience comfort, but the driver also feels comfortable, coupled with the easy handling of the Jaecoo J8.
The engine noise that is quite audible in the cabin when using sport mode and the complicated feature settings are particular points of note for us.
