New Hyundai Creta Jakarta-Lampung Exploration: Its Turbo is Surprising

KatadataOTO had the opportunity to test drive the latest Hyundai Creta, including the N Line Turbo variant. Here's the review.

New Hyundai Creta Jakarta-Lampung Exploration: Its Turbo is Surprising
Katadata OTO Rating:

Powerful, feature-rich, and easy to set up, with an excellent riding position.

The turbo spools up at 1,500 rpm, and the power feels excessive at low speeds.

Speaking of cabin space, when we tried sitting as passengers in the front and second-row seats, it felt very spacious for those with a height of around 150 cm and above.

Driving Impression

The journey from Jakarta to Merak Port was made using the Hyundai Creta Prime type. Despite not having turbo technology, the car felt powerful with the addition of several driving modes.

It should be noted that the engine in the Creta Prime and N Line is still the same as the version previously marketed in Indonesia.

Before entering the toll road, one missing feature was noticeable: Blind Spot Monitoring. In the N Line and N Line Turbo types, this feature provides a visual of the car's left and right areas depending on the turn signal activated by the driver, displayed on the instrument panel.

This can help the driver while driving, especially when maneuvering on busy city streets.

The performance difference was felt when we tried the Hyundai Creta N Line Turbo in the Lampung area. Its acceleration is more instant thanks to the combination of a turbo engine and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

“This transmission was indeed designed by Hyundai Motor Company as the most optimal combination for the 1,500 cc turbo engine,” said Bonar Pakpahan, Product Expert at PT HMID, when met in Lampung some time ago.

However, the suspension becomes stiffer when compared to the Creta Prime. Especially when going over poor asphalt conditions.

The suspension is indeed the same as the Creta Prime, namely MacPherson Strut at the front and Couple Torsion Beam Axle at the rear. But there are adjustments in the Creta N Line Turbo to compensate for the power and torque, so the car feels more rigid when driven at high speeds.

The additional turbo on this Creta N Line is said to be active at low rpm. Referring to the official specifications, the turbine technology starts working at 1,500 rpm.
