KatadataOTO – The bestselling vehicle brands of 2024 are still dominated by Japanese manufacturers, even though various other manufacturers have easily entered the country. This result shows that public trust in car manufacturers from that country is still high.
This achievement is certainly very important because car sales in Indonesia in 2024 experienced a significant decline, despite the large number of automotive manufacturers entering the market.
Based on Gaikindo data, retail car sales throughout 2024 amounted to 889,680 units. This figure is 10.9 percent lower than the achievement in the same period last year, which was 998,059 units.
Of this total, Toyota became the bestselling brand with sales reaching 293,788 units, or controlling 33 percent of the national market. This figure is much lower than the achievement in the same period, which was 325,395 units.
The second position was filled by Daihatsu, which successfully sold 168,263 units to customers, or 18.9 percent of the total market in 2024. Meanwhile, in the same period last year, the Japanese manufacturer sold 194,108 units.
Honda then took third place with sales of 103,023 units, or 11.6 percent. The Japanese manufacturer's achievement dropped significantly compared to last year's 128,010 units.
Mitsubishi Motors successfully secured fourth place, moving up one rank, with retail sales of 74,030 units throughout 2024, or 8.3 percent. This is a decrease from the previous 81,729 units.
Suzuki closes out the top five bestselling car brands in Indonesia with retail sales of 69,392 units, or 7.8 percent. This number caused them to drop one rank from last year, when they achieved retail sales of 82,244 units.
An interesting note is that Wuling managed to reach the eighth position, up from 10th previously. The Chinese manufacturer delivered 25,067 units to customers, a slight decrease compared to last year's 25,992 units.
Meanwhile, Hyundai had to drop to 10th place after successfully sitting in sixth position last year. The South Korean manufacturer was recorded as selling 22,097 units, down from the previous 35,736 units.
