KatadataOTO – With the inauguration of the factory in Purwakarta, West Java, Aion has the potential to capture a significant market in the future. This is because they are not only focusing on domestic demand but also on neighboring countries.

Moreover, the factory's capacity is quite large at 20,000 units per year. That number can increase to 50,000 units if vehicle demand is high enough.

“Indonesia is a key market in GAC's global expansion and is part of our overseas development strategy,” said Wei Haigang, President of GAC International, to the media this afternoon (10/06).

He also revealed that his party plans to sell the products manufactured in Indonesia abroad in several stages.

“For the first phase, it will be right-hand drive countries in Southeast Asia. Then we also want to export to countries in Africa and Australia,” he then added.

Unfortunately, he did not specify in detail which models they will export. However, the focus is different from the factory in Thailand.

“The types of vehicles produced and exported will certainly be different. Because each will produce according to the best-selling models in its country,” he then added.

It was previously reported that GAC Aion and Indomobil Group, through PT National Assemblers, have inaugurated their factory located in Purwakarta, West Java. The facility is expected to be proof of the company's commitment to developing the automotive market in the country.

The factory that was built has also adopted the manufacturing system from GAC's NEV Lighthouse Factories in China. Thanks to this, the entire work process can be monitored to maintain optimal quality and operational efficiency.

Not only that, the production line changeover process can be done in 30 minutes, enabling fast and responsive production.  With this flexibility, the factory can assemble pure electric vehicles (EVs) as well as hybrids (HEV/PHEV) according to the company's strategic developments.

Aion also revealed that four types of vehicles will be produced, ranging from sedans, SUVs, to MPVs. They even plan to meet market needs by introducing a 7-seater car.
