Some of the land for the BYD and VinFast factories in Subang, West Java, is reportedly using agricultural land.

KatadataOTO – Electric car manufacturers BYD and VinFast are building factories. The production facilities are located in Subang, West Java.
However, negative rumors are circulating about the two manufacturers from China and Vietnam. This is because their factories are said to be built on agricultural land.
This news was conveyed directly by Dedi Mulyadi, Governor of West Java, when he met with Andri Amran Sulaiman, the Minister of Agriculture (Mentan), last week on Wednesday (13/08).
"The Governor (Dedi Mulyadi) stated that a car factory with an investment value of around Rp 33 trillion will be built in Subang. Coincidentally, part of the planned land is rice paddy fields," said Amran, as quoted by Antara (21/08).
The Minister of Agriculture said he would check the truth of the issue. So that the investments by BYD and VinFast can continue in Subang, West Java.
This can then provide many job opportunities for the people in Subang, West Java, and its surrounding areas.
Additionally, this is to prevent future conflicts between local residents and the manufacturers, VinFast and BYD.
"However, if there is a conversion of agricultural land, we insist that the land must be replaced with at least three times the area of the converted land so that farmers still have suitable replacement land," Amran continued.
Meanwhile, a different fact was presented by Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, the Minister of Industry (Menperin), regarding the land used by the VinFast and BYD factories in Subang, West Java.
According to Agus, the land already has the status of an industrial area. Therefore, there are no obstacles for BYD and VinFast to use it to build Electric Vehicle (EV) production facilities.
"That's not actually the story, if it already has the status of an industrial area. It means they no longer have a problem," the Minister of Industry affirmed.
