KatadataOTO – BYD is one of the Chinese car brands that has started selling electric cars with the help of import incentives from the government.

Thanks to this, BYD can sell its vehicle lineup at competitive prices even though all of them are still fully imported or have Completely Built Up (CBU) status.

It should be noted that BYD officially entered the Indonesian market in early 2024. At that time, they introduced three main products: the Dolphin, Atto 3, and Seal.

The three fill different segments. The Dolphin is categorized as a hatchback, the Atto 3 a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV), while the Seal is an electric sedan.

According to Gaikindo's retail data (distribution from dealers to consumers), BYD only started delivering units to buyers in July 2024.

In that first stage, BYD sales reached 2,047 units throughout July 2024. This figure even surpassed the achievements of several other Chinese car brands like MG, which sold 523 units in the same period.

In August 2024, the figure increased to 2,369 units. It dropped in September to 1,788 units, but from October to December, it remained consistently around 2,000 units per month.

As a result, within six months, BYD's retail sales reached 13,964 units, once again outpacing other Chinese brands in that period.

BYD's achievements did not stop there. In 2025, various new models were introduced, including the compact electric car Atto 1, also known as the Seagull in some countries.
