Consumers need not worry, Chery states its products in Indonesia are safe for ethanol-blended fuel consumption.
KatadataOTO – The discourse on implementing ethanol-blended fuel (BBM) has become a concern for motor vehicle users.
This is because without the readiness of the vehicle's tank and engine, ethanol-blended fuel has the potential to cause new problems for both motorcycles and cars.
However, it should be noted that the plan to use a 10 percent ethanol blend in gasoline is not new.
This is one form of the government's commitment to reducing emissions. However, it has recently become a topic of discussion again.
Without proper education and certainty about the ecosystem's readiness, the implementation of 10 percent ethanol-blended fuel, or E10, is certainly a concern for many parties.
In response, several automotive brands, including Chery, have confirmed that their vehicle lineup is equipped with specifications compatible with using ethanol-blended gasoline.
“Essentially, consumers don't need to worry about Chery products marketed in Indonesia. They already support E20 or whatever it may be,” said Budi Darmawan, Country Vice President of PT Chery Sales Indonesia (CSI) in Jakarta recently.
It is worth noting that Chery's vehicle lineup is claimed to work well in Thailand, where ethanol fuel is already in use.
This seems to be no exception for units sold in Indonesia. In fact, on paper, Chery cars are claimed to be able to use ethanol-blended fuel from 20 percent up to 100 percent.
Therefore, Chery emphasizes that consumers do not need to worry about the implementation of 10 percent ethanol-blended gasoline, or E10.
“We will continue to provide updates and developments in accordance with the government's decisions,” Budi affirmed.
For your information, ethanol in gasoline has hygroscopic or absorbent properties. This makes vehicle owners anxious.
Especially if the vehicle's fuel tank is not formulated to store ethanol-blended gasoline. One of the impacts is rust occurring on that component.
To avoid causing concern among motor vehicle users, the government is expected to first carry out a transition and begin the implementation of E10 with education.
Furthermore, the readiness of the ecosystem, such as the material of underground tanks at Public Fuel Filling Stations (SPBU) and the storage methods for E10, must also meet the standards.
