KatadataOTO – Some time ago Chery registered a vehicle design that is different from their current product line in Indonesia.

Not an SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle), the model in question is a pickup double cabin. Interestingly, no similar design has been launched by Chery in the global market.

This Chinese manufacturer has indeed just launched a sub-brand to focus on pickups in its home country.

When confirmed, Chery revealed that Indonesia is one of the target countries for marketing pickups.

“Because in Indonesia there is a demand for pickup models,” said Zeng Shuo, President Director of PT CSI (Chery Sales Indonesia) when met in Bekasi, Wednesday (16/07).

It should be noted that Chery has two new sub-brands specifically for the pickup segment, namely Rely and Himla. One of them has the potential to be introduced domestically.

However, he was still reluctant to explain in detail about the presence of the Chery pickup in the country. It is certain that the sub-brand will not be displayed at the GIIAS (Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show) 2025 event.

“There is a possibility that in the future we will bring the pickup, the Himla product line, to Indonesia. Not that soon (at GIIAS 2025),” Zeng Shuo affirmed.

Speaking of double cabin pickups, in Indonesia the options are dominated by Japanese products. For example, the Toyota Hilux and Mitsubishi Triton.

Then there are also the Ford Ranger and Ford Ranger Raptor double cabins, filling the premium segment. No Chinese manufacturer has brought a similar model for consumers yet.

If Rely or Himla arrives, it could be an interesting new option. Because there is a high chance its price will be offered more competitively.

For context, the price of a double cabin pickup in Indonesia currently ranges from Rp 400 million to Rp 1 billion.

The Toyota Hilux D Cab G type is sold starting from Rp 488.3 million. Meanwhile, the top variant, the 2.4 V 4x4 AT, is sold for Rp 539.9 million.

Then there is the lowest Mitsubishi Triton type at Rp 310.4 million. The highest variant, the Ultimate AT, is not much different from the Hilux at Rp 540.7 million.

Lastly is the Ford Ranger XLT type at Rp 697 million, the Wildtrak at Rp 826 million, and the Ranger Raptor starting from Rp 1.26 billion on the road in Jakarta.
