Salespeople's Confessions on New Car Orders at GJAW 2025

Daihatsu hopes new car sales will improve for the remainder of this year and continue to surge in 2026.
KatadataOTO – The new car market in Indonesia is not doing well. Throughout 2025, sales can be said to have low demand.
As of October 2025, total retail sales of new cars have only reached 660,659 units. Meanwhile, Gaikindo's own target is 850 thousand units.
The marketing of new vehicles in Indonesia recorded quite good results in October 2025. Total retail sales of new cars reached 74,720 units.
The October figure increased sharply from the previous month's 63,752 units. However, it was not higher than the achievement in March 2025, which was 76,765 units.
“Our hope is that the market can increase in the remaining 2 months. The market could be around 810 – 815, with a maximum of perhaps 820 for the total market,” said Sri Agung Handayani, Marketing and Corporate Communication Director of PT ADM (Astra Daihatsu Motor) in Jakarta (27/11).
The figures mentioned above are based on the assumption that new car sales continue to be around 70 thousand each month.
Many people are placing their hopes on the GJAW 2025 event. This is because at the exhibition, a number of brands are offering attractive sales programs.
Although based on the observations of the KatadataOTO team at ICE, BSD City, Tangerang, the exhibition was not better than GIIAS 2025.
Although the exhibition's achievements felt less than optimal, year-end sales generally saw an increase.
“Usually, the seasonal index is good in December. Hopefully, it can be supportive,” explained Agung during the Daihatsu Indonesia Masters 2026 press conference (27/11).
Speaking of next year's sales, Daihatsu hopes Indonesia's macroeconomy will improve. This would create new job opportunities.
As an affordable car, the LCGC (Low Cost Green Car) has targeted first-time buyers from the beginning. This vehicle was able to attract many from the lower-income segment.
However, recently the LCGC market has been continuously eroding. In fact, this year the decline is even greater.
“The biggest [decline] is in LCGCs, as it's down to 16.3 percent. Whereas it used to be at 21.4 percent,” said Agung.
It was further mentioned that besides LCGCs, the LMPV and Medium SUV markets also experienced a decline in sales.
Only Premium SUVs and commercial vehicles or pickups experienced an increase in sales. This indirectly implies that new cars are only reaching the upper class.
