The BYD Dolphin has a new competitor: the GAC Aion UT, priced at around Rp 198 million, which will be sold in various countries.
KatadataOTO – The price war for electric cars or EVs (Electric Vehicles) has started again in China. Not long ago, GAC Group released the Aion UT hatchback with a price tag starting from 89,800 yuan-109,800 yuan or around Rp 198.3 million to Rp 242.4 million in rupiah.
Viewed from the side, its design is reminiscent of the BYD Dolphin. However, the Aion UT has a more minimalist fascia and small lights.
In terms of size, the L x W x H dimensions of the Aion UT are 4,270 mm x 1,850 mm x 1,575 mm. Slightly larger but not much different from the BYD Dolphin (4,290 mm x 1,770 mm x 1,570 mm).
GAC claims that compared to other models in the same class, the Aion UT's cabin is the most spacious.
Speaking of the powertrain, the Aion UT is equipped with a single electric motor that can produce a peak power of 134 hp. Its battery capacity is 44 kWh, offering a range of 420 km on a single charge.
Again, this is not much different from the BYD Dolphin. Because the highest variant of the electric car already available in Indonesia has a claimed range of 410 km to 490 km based on the NEDC testing method or 340 km-427 km according to the WLTP standard.
The GAC Aion UT could be a candidate for a new model in Indonesia, filling the same segment as the BYD Dolphin. Because the product will be sold in various countries after its domestic debut.
For your information, GAC Aion has offered several electric car models in the country. There are the Aion Y Plus, ES, Hyptec HT, and the newest is the Aion V which debuted at GJAW 2024 (Gaikindo Jakarta Auto Week).
This well-known brand from China has received a good response from consumers. Even at GJAW 2024, GAC Aion managed to secure 847 SPK (Vehicle Order Letters).
Its newest product, the Aion V, was the most in-demand with a total of 379 units ordered. Following that were the Hyptec HT with 335 units and the Y Plus with 133 units.
Under the auspices of the Indomobil Group, GAC Aion will also locally assemble its vehicle lineup and receive electric car incentives from the government.
Thus, GAC Aion electric cars in the country can be sold at competitive prices and support the acceleration of environmentally friendly vehicle adoption.
Done in stages, their locally assembled product will later be the Aion Y Plus. Until 2027, the manufacturer will continue to boost the TKDN (Domestic Component Level) to reach 40 percent to 80 percent.
