The GAC E9 PHEV, an MPV and potential rival to the Toyota Alphard HEV, is scheduled to launch in Indonesia by the end of 2025.
KatadataOTO – The Multi Purpose Vehicle (MPV) GAC E9 PHEV was exhibited by the manufacturer during the inauguration of its factory in Purwakarta, West Java.
The same model was also present at the GIIAS 2025 event. However, the GAC E9 PHEV is not yet for sale to consumers.
Nevertheless, GAC has confirmed that the potential competitor to the Toyota Alphard will still be introduced to domestic customers in the near future.
“The GAC E9 PHEV is in our plans. Hopefully, perhaps in the fourth quarter (of this year) or early next year,” said Major Qin, Chief Operating Officer of GAC Indonesia, when met on the sidelines of GIIAS 2025 recently.
However, Major is still tight-lipped about the exact launch date of the GAC E9 PHEV.
But he confirmed that the manufacturer will locally assemble the MPV at their assembly facility.
However, the models prioritized for local assembly are the Aion V, Hyptec HT, and then the Aion UT. According to Major, the Aion Y Plus will also be considered for CKD (Completely Knocked Down).
“(The GAC E9 PHEV) will not be fully imported. We will assemble it here,” Major firmly concluded.
For your information, the GAC E9 PHEV is already available in a right-hand drive (RHD) configuration.
In Southeast Asia, the GAC E9 PHEV was launched earlier in Hong Kong in November 2024.
In terms of dimensions, the GAC E9 PHEV measures 5,212 mm (L) x 1,893 mm (W) x 1,823 mm (H) with a wheelbase of 3,070 mm.
Thanks to its considerable size, the car has a spacious cabin suitable for an MPV.
Comfort is also supported by the use of Electromagnetic Damping Suspension (EDS), which helps to dampen shocks in the cabin during the journey.
Regarding the powertrain, the GAC PHEV is equipped with a 2,000 cc engine producing 188 hp and a peak torque of 330 Nm.
However, there is hybrid technology support, namely a 25.67 kWh Magazine Battery 2.0, offering a pure electric range of 106 km, while its claimed comprehensive range is 1,032 km.
The combination of the engine and electric motor is claimed to produce 367 hp and 630 Nm of torque.
