KatadataOTO – Indonesia's automotive industry is not doing well. Car and motorcycle sales in the country are facing significant challenges.

Besides a weakening of purchasing power, the market is also in turmoil as product prices continue to rise. As a result, the sales report has not improved.

The increasing number of new car and motorcycle options in the country has not sparked public interest. Incentives from the government are needed to stimulate the market.

"We (Gaikindo) have been in discussions with the government to find new breakthroughs. Perhaps if we succeed, we will announce it later," said Yohannes Nangoi, Chairman of Gaikindo in Jakarta, Wednesday (18/06).

All efforts are being made to at least stimulate the market. For your information, car sales in Indonesia are still hovering around the 800 thousand per year mark.

The hope is that with government assistance, marketing can be increased to one million. The last time the new car sales market reached the 1 million unit mark was in 2023.

So, what kind of program is being prepared by Gaikindo with the government? Because the industry is already hoping for attention from the regulator.

"Whether it's new incentives or a new revolution in taxation and all sorts of things, we will see together," explained Nangoi.

He said that GIIAS 2025 is one way to help sales. The exhibition will be held from July 24 - August 3.

The event is said to be the most complete automotive exhibition in the world. A total of 60 world-class brands will participate.

"I have seen automotive exhibitions abroad firsthand, they are not as complete as in Indonesia. Because here there are brands from China, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, and also the European continent,” said Nangoi
