KatadataOTO – The new car market in Indonesia in 2025 is full of challenges. Manufacturers must work hard to boost sales.

The Association of Indonesia Automotive Industries (Gaikindo), is making various efforts to stimulate the market at the end of 2025.

Such as by holding the Gaikindo Jakarta Auto Week (GJAW) 2025. The event is expected to encourage people to shop.

However, Toyota, Daihatsu, and BYD cannot simply rely too much on the presence of GJAW 2025.

“GJAW 2025 can help boost sales (of new cars), but to expect a significant contribution seems excessive,” said Bebin Djuana, an automotive observer, when contacted by KatadataOTO some time ago.

Bebin believes that government intervention is needed to stimulate the new car market. Because the current economic conditions have not yet improved.

Therefore, President Prabowo Subianto and his ministers must take concrete steps to boost the sales of new four-wheeled vehicles.

“The taxes that are still burdensome, this is what is constantly being questioned. Is the government willing to revise the taxation that heavily burdens consumers,” Bebin continued.

Indeed, if you look at it, Indonesia is now one of the countries with the highest vehicle taxes in the world. This is considered to contribute to the weakening of public purchasing power.

Therefore, the government is urged to immediately restructure taxes. So that new car prices become more affordable.

“If there is no help, it means it's left to nature. Manufacturers are already bleeding to survive because of unsold stock, like an internal wound,” Bebin asserted.

According to Bebin, the current situation cannot be left as it is. Because it has the potential to be repeated next year.

If the new car market is still sluggish by 2026, it is certain to bring many negative impacts.

For example, employee reductions or layoffs (PHK) could become more massive. It won't just happen in the four-wheeled vehicle industry.

But it will also occur in various other supporting industries. For instance, in the component sector, which also plays a major role.

“This remains the hope at the end of the year, hopefully, the popular models will be sufficiently available. So that at GJAW 2025, it's not just about collecting vehicle order forms (SPK),” Bebin concluded.

For your information, GJAW 2025 will be held at ICE BSD, Tangerang. The exhibition will take place from November 21-30.
