KatadataOTO – The government is encouraging Wuling to soon launch an electric car with a seven-passenger capacity. This is because the Indonesian market prefers large-capacity vehicles over other models.

Its potential is considered very high, given that the electric vehicle market can still grow amidst the sluggish public demand for cars.

“As long as you bring products that suit the market, then don't worry. Indonesia is the center for 7-seaters, so bring the model here at an affordable price,” said M. Rachmat Kaimuddin, Deputy for Basic Infrastructure at the Coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure and Regional Development.

The proposal was positively received by Wuling as one of the electric car manufacturers in the country. They are committed to promptly addressing the challenge to continue meeting customer needs.

“Indeed, the largest market in Indonesia is in the MPV or 7-seater segment, and we already have the platform for it. Yes, the hope is to bring that model as soon as possible,” said Ricky Christian, Marketing Operation Director of Wuling Motors, to the media some time ago.

If Wuling introduces a 7-seater electric vehicle, it is not impossible that EV sales in the country will surge. This is because the public's choices for such cars have been very limited so far.

Production Reaches 167 Thousand Units

It should be noted that Wuling has just celebrated its 8th anniversary in Indonesia. During its presence in the country, they have recorded various achievements, from high sales figures to an extensive network to facilitate customer purchases.

Impressively, they have successfully produced 167 thousand vehicles in Indonesia. Of this total, 6,800 units have been exported to meet market needs in 18 countries.

Wuling Motors' journey in Indonesia began with the inauguration of its factory facility in July 2017. Established on a 60-hectare plot of land in the Cikarang area, Bekasi, they were immediately supported by a strong local supply chain, sales ecosystem, and after-sales service.

Currently, Wuling offers nine models, including four ICE-based products, one hybrid car, and four EVs. All of these models are produced in Indonesia.
