Honda is confident its latest hybrid SUV will be well-received amidst the onslaught of similar models from China.
KatadataOTO – Honda is preparing a new hybrid technology SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) model for Indonesian consumers.
Previously, PT HPM (Honda Prospect Motor) had already launched the CR-V e:HEV. However, the units are still CBU (Completely Built Up) or fully imported from Thailand.
Meanwhile, this new SUV will be locally assembled. However, Honda is reluctant to reveal the model explicitly.
However, it was mentioned that it will use the production line of one of the models already produced at Honda Indonesia's assembly facility and will receive government incentives.
The Honda HR-V is strongly believed to be the candidate for PT HPM's new hybrid SUV in 2025. Currently, this model is already locally assembled.
“Yes, on the same production line. The car already exists, but with hybrid technology, and it utilizes government facilities, receiving a three percent incentive,” said Yusak Billy, Sales & Marketing and Aftersales Director of PT HPM in Sunter recently.
He emphasized that the decision to assemble it locally will allow the price of Honda's upcoming new hybrid car to be sold at a competitive price.
Honda's hybrid SUV will later compete against several other models from Chinese manufacturers that have also received tax incentives, such as the GWM Haval Jolion, priced in the Rp 400 million range.
“Speaking of price, yes, we are affordable,” said Billy, responding to the price comparison of Honda's hybrid SUV with other Chinese products in Indonesia.
They are confident that Honda's hybrid SUV will be in demand because it has capable features and the latest HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle) technology, so its quality is proven.
He claims that Honda's newest product can be even more fuel-efficient than its predecessor, the CR-V e:HEV.
“You can try it later, see how the dual motors work; the battery (and electric motor) does more of the work (powering the wheels) than the gasoline engine,” he said.
Referring to global specifications, the Honda HR-V e:HEV is equipped with a 1,500 cc engine that produces 105 hp and 131 Nm of torque. The power is supported by an electric motor, generating an additional 175 hp while its torque is 253 Nm.
