KatadataOTO – Indonesia has welcomed another Chinese car brand. After Denza, the premium brand Hongqi will be sold in Indonesia under PT Indomobil Sukses Internasional Tbk through its subsidiary, PT IMG Sejahtera Langgeng.

This information was stated in a letter published on the Indonesia Stock Exchange website, regarding the signing of a cooperation document for the distribution of Hongqi brand motor vehicles.

The letter was signed by Jusak Kertowidjojo, President Director of PT Indomobil Sukses Internasional Tbk.

In the letter numbered 487/IMSI/CS-290/VII/25, PT IMG Sejahtera Langgeng or IMGSL has signed a distribution contract with China FAW Group Import & Export Co., Ltd.

“In the document, it was agreed that IMGSL will manage the distribution of Hongqi brand motor vehicles along with after-sales services, including spare parts, in the territory of the Republic of Indonesia,” stated the letter, quoted on Thursday (10/07).

The arrival of the Chinese car brand, Hongqi, in Indonesia had already been rumored in 2024. Periklindo (Indonesian Electric Vehicle Industry Association) had invited three Chinese brands to attend a conference, one of which was Hongqi.

“The hope is that with this conference, they will not only get input about the industry but also about the EV (Electric Vehicle) situation in Indonesia,” said Adrianto Gani, Head of Marketing & Promotion at Periklindo in Jakarta some time ago.

Hongqi is a brand known for offering the most luxurious vehicles in its home country, China.

Hongqi's car lineup is often used during state events in China. For example, in 2022, the then-President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, used a Hongqi L5 when meeting President Xi Jinping.

The Hongqi L5 limousine first launched in 2013 for 5 million yuan. That figure is equivalent to Rp 11.3 billion when converted to the rupiah exchange rate.

Currently, Hongqi offers various vehicle models. Not only sedans but also SUVs (Sport Utility Vehicles).

It is not yet known for sure which models Hongqi will bring to the Indonesian market. However, there is a chance they will bring their EV lineup first as an introduction to consumers.
