KatadataOTO – Amid the many automotive challenges last year, sales of luxury cars experienced a decline in consumer purchasing power.

Although generally unaffected by the economic situation, luxury car brands like BMW admitted that some consumers who are business owners postponed their purchases.

However, throughout 2025, BMW remained the leader in the luxury car segment. In the January-December 2025 period, the brand's retail sales (distribution from dealers to consumers) reached 2,450 units.

Like many other domestic manufacturers, BMW's sales actually surged at the end of the year.

BMW was recorded to have delivered 307 new cars to consumers, an increase of 74.4 percent from November 2025's 178 units.

Some time ago, BMW held an exclusive exhibition that combined product lines from BMW, Mini, and BMW Motorrad.

A number of offers and direct test drive experiences were provided for interested consumers. This could be a significant factor behind the surge in BMW's retail sales in December 2025.

Following BMW is Toyota's sub-brand, Lexus. The manufacturer recorded retail sales of 1,523 units last year.

Unlike BMW, Lexus's highest sales were actually achieved in August 2025. At that time, they delivered 185 cars to customers.

In third place, Mercedes-Benz recorded retail sales of 1,277 units from January to December 2025.

Mercedes-Benz also experienced a sales surge at the end of the year, distributing 107 units, an increase of 40.7 percent from 76 units in November.

In 2026, the luxury car segment is likely to welcome a lineup of new arrivals from Chinese manufacturers.

Denza will introduce a new model believed to be priced above IDR 1 billion. Meanwhile, other brands like Hongqi have already established a partnership with Indomobil and are ready to present new products.

It should be noted that Hongqi is a luxury car brand in its home country. The brand also provides operational vehicles for use by the Chinese government.

Therefore, the competition in the luxury car segment throughout this year with the presence of Chinese brands is worth waiting for.
