KatadataOTO – The government, through the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin), has introduced various programs to encourage the adoption of Electric Vehicles (EVs). Such as by providing incentives for imported electric cars.

This assistance can be used for the purchase of electric four-wheeled vehicles with Completely Built Up (CBU) status. This particular rule is valid until December 31, 2025.

However, it is highly likely that the government's incentive for imported electric cars, or CBUs, will not be continued next year.

“We can assume this incentive will end in accordance with the existing regulations,” said Mahardi Tunggul Wicaksono, Director of Maritime Industry, Transportation Equipment, and Defense Equipment (ILMATAP) of the Ministry of Industry in Jakarta, on Monday (25/08).

Tunggul further stated that, as of now, the government has not held another meeting to discuss this assistance.

So he revealed that the incentive for imported electric cars continues to run according to the provisions. It will end at the end of this year.

“Regarding this incentive, indeed, as of today, we can inform you that there have been no meetings at all with other ministries or institutions regarding the continuation of this incentive,” he added.

For your information, the incentive for imported electric cars has been in effect since 2024. It has also been utilized by EV manufacturers.

Manufacturers who provide a bank guarantee can import their products as CBUs without being subject to Import Duty and Luxury Goods Sales Tax (PPnBM) until December 31, 2025.

However, they must fulfill their obligations to the Indonesian government. Such as by investing in establishing a factory in the country.

Then, they are required to produce electric cars in the country, in accordance with the total number of CBU units previously imported.

Production of electric four-wheeled vehicles in Indonesia must begin on January 1, 2026. It will then end on December 31, 2027, in accordance with the Domestic Component Level (TKDN) roadmap.
