KatadataOTOIndomobil Sukses Internasional has officially brought Changan Automobile to Indonesia. They are set to hit the ground running.

It is said that the Chinese manufacturer will produce all its cars in the country, also known as CKD (Completely Knock Down).

“Indeed, the direction is straight to CKD after we select the models and make adaptations for the Indonesian market,” said Andrew Nasuri, Director of Indomobil Sukses Internasional in Jakarta some time ago.

According to Andrew, this is being done to follow the Indonesian government's recommendation. This way, it can have an impact on the automotive sector.

The assembly plant for Changan is planned to start operations this year.

This is because for Changan's four-wheeled vehicles, there is no directive for complete imports or CBU (Completely Built Up).

“Directly to production (domestically), yes. That's why we need time for adaptation and setup,” he continued.

He also revealed that Changan Automobile is a state-owned enterprise (BUMN) in China.

Therefore, they fully understand the wishes of the Indonesian government, especially regarding domestic production.

“From G to G (Government to Government) discussions have also pointed to this. So, in Indonesia, the direction must be towards CKD, not just selling CBU,” Andrew emphasized.

However, the Indomobil boss did not disclose which production facility will be used by Changan.

Products for Indonesia Not Yet Determined

On the other hand, Indomobil and Changan have not yet decided which products will be sold in the country.

Andrew said his party is still conducting studies to understand the needs of domestic consumers.

“One is what standards are required by Indonesia, and we can also work on customization,” he stated.

The Indomobil boss explained that Changan Automobile has a diverse product portfolio. Ranging from passenger cars to commercial vehicles.

Therefore, Indomobil and Changan are currently looking for which four-wheeled vehicle suits consumer needs.

“Indonesia is very unique, people here want a lot, but the price must be affordable, and we are indeed choosing to lean towards the low-end for Changan,” said Andrew.

Nevertheless, some time ago, the Changan Deepal S07 was caught on camera on the streets of Bandung. So it is highly likely that this model will be sold here.
