KatadataOTO – Lamborghini is preparing its electrification lineup. However, the Italian brand is currently undecided.

They are faced with two powertrain options for their new car. Between a hybrid or a pure electric powertrain.

According to several online media reports, Lamborghini will soon launch the Lanzador for automotive enthusiasts.

Reporting from Carscoops on Monday (13/10), the manufacturer from the Land of Pizza intends to make the product a full Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV).

However, Lamborghini is also considering a hybrid powertrain, combining a battery with a V8 engine, commonly known as a Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV).

"We could make a BEV, but I think that would be a bad decision for the next few years," said Stephan Winkelmann, Chief Executive Officer of Lamborghini.

Winkelmann further stated that Lamborghini customers do not see BEVs as an option.

Therefore, they are starting to consider a hybrid powertrain to meet the needs of potential buyers.

On the other hand, it was explained that if Lamborghini chooses a hybrid engine for the Lanzador, it will share technology and components with previous models.

Such as the PHEV system of the Lamborghini Temerario and the latest Urus SE, which rely on a twin-turbo V8 engine.

Thus, it can deliver high power while maintaining low emissions for the future Lamborghini hybrid car.

This is automatically claimed to be in line with the values they are aiming for, namely contributing to the reduction of exhaust gas emissions.

"We have to move realistically, considering the weight (of the vehicle), cost, and complexity of the hybrid system," concluded the Lamborghini boss.

Different from Ferrari

On the other hand, if Lamborghini chooses a hybrid engine for the Lanzador, it will be a different path from the one taken by Ferrari.

Considering their compatriot is preparing its first electric car, the Crossover Elettrica.

Nevertheless, Lamborghini is claimed to be one of the companies that is not afraid to be different.

Winkelmann is claimed to be a cool-headed and pragmatic type of leader. He will follow where the money leads.

"The most important thing is not what you can achieve in technology, the important thing is what the customer wants," Winkelmann emphasized.

It remains to be seen how the Lamborghini Lanzador project will continue. Whether it will be equipped with a pure electric powertrain or a PHEV.
