Mahindra Will Bring Passenger Cars to Indonesia Next Year

KatadataOTO – RMA Indonesia as the brand holder of Mahindra plans to launch a passenger car next year. This commitment is certainly interesting because the public will have more vehicle choices.

Although not specified in detail, the model is believed to be able to boost their sales. This is because passenger car sales in Indonesia are indeed quite large compared to commercial vehicles.

“Yes, hopefully next year we can bring in passenger vehicles. Because so far, Mahindra has been more present in plantations or mining, so it's less visible in urban areas,” Toto Suharto, Country Manager RMA Indonesia

He also revealed that it is possible they will bring electric cars to Indonesia. This is because they already have models in that segment.

In fact, some of them are claimed to have received a positive response not only from India but also from other countries.

“Mahindra happens to already have electric cars in India, so I think that will be an interesting thing in the country. But everything can be an option, whether it's ICE, EV, or even both,” Toto added.

He also did not rule out the possibility of bringing more than one model to the country. Thus, it is hoped that market penetration can be more optimal than just bringing one option.

“We do have several models and some of them we have already prepared,” he asserted.

He also admitted to not being worried about dealers and maintenance facilities, which are usually a challenge for new brand holders. This is because Mahindra already has many networks in various locations.

“We continue to build our network in Indonesia and are already present in Java, Sumatra, and Kalimantan,” he added.

It should be noted that Mahindra is present in Indonesia with a focus on the commercial segment. One of its flagship models is the Scorpio double cabin, which is claimed to successfully meet the needs of customers in plantation and mining areas.

This car is equipped with a 2,200 cc turbo diesel engine. The powertrain is capable of producing 140 hp and 320 Nm of torque.

For more optimal performance, Mahindra has installed a 4x4 drive system. With this, customers can tackle various road conditions.
