KatadataOTO – Mazda launched its first strong hybrid car, the CX-80 PHEV, on Wednesday (Jan 22). Previously, the Japanese manufacturer only sold a mild hybrid product, the CX-60.

“The CX-80 is designed to be a symbol of luxury and elegance with the concept of graceful toughness, presenting a perfect harmony between strength and beauty,” said Ricky Thio, Chief Operating Officer of PT EMI (Eurokars Motor Indonesia) in Jakarta, Wednesday (Jan 22).

The Mazda CX-80 PHEV's design still carries the Kodo Design and Jinba Ittai concepts. Then, although it is an SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle), the model is claimed to offer comfort similar to a family car.

This makes it suitable for consumers in the premium segment who want to use an electrified vehicle for urban mobility.

Unlike the CX-60, the CX-80 PHEV is a 6-seater SUV with captain seats in the second row. The third-row seats can be folded flat to the cabin floor to accommodate the owner's needs when carrying additional cargo.

The Mazda CX-80 PHEV is equipped with i-Activsense safety technology. This ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) includes several functions such as Front Cross Traffic Alert, Blind Spot Monitoring, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.

A 360-degree camera feature is also available to assist the driver when maneuvering the CX-80 PHEV while parking or passing through narrow areas.

Besides design and comfort, the Mazda CX-80's performance is supported by an electric motor and a transmission system without a torque converter, which is said to make power delivery more efficient and smooth.
