KatadataOTO – Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, Minister of Industry, revealed that the domestic industry is ready to carry out the national car project.

With this, President Prabowo Subianto's desire to present a national car in the next three years can be realized.

“The industry is ready, and I have spoken with the company. The brand already exists, and I have also met with the company,” he said in an official statement.

He has even proposed that the program become a National Strategic Project (PSN). Therefore, his party has sent a letter to the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) for consideration.

“Last week, I signed a letter addressed to the Minister of Bappenas,” said the Minister of Industry.

?Furthermore, Agus stated that establishing this program as a PSN will accelerate the implementation of national vehicle manufacturing in the country.

“Thanks to the designation as a PSN, everything related to preparation, implementation, and later commissioning should be faster, in line with the President's expectations,” he emphasized.

Push for a National Car

It was previously reported that President Prabowo wants Indonesia to be able to produce cars with its own brand. It is hoped that Indonesia's roads will not only be dominated by foreign brands but also by local ones in the future.

“We will have an Indonesian-made car in the next three years," said Prabowo.

He even revealed that the government has allocated funds and land for the construction of a domestic vehicle factory. Currently, the development team is said to be working on preparing for it.

?The President revealed that Indonesia has successfully produced a jeep used by officials and TNI officers. The vehicle is a source of pride as it was designed and manufactured domestically.

?The jeep Prabowo referred to is the Maung light tactical vehicle produced by PT Pindad. The model is already being used by high-ranking TNI officials.

However, he emphasized that the use of this vehicle will be widely implemented within government and military circles in the future.

"Soon, you all must use the Maung, I don't want to hear otherwise. Use your nice cars only on holidays," Prabowo asserted.
