Minister of Industry Proposes National Car Be Designated a National Strategic Project

KatadataOTO – Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, Minister of Industry, has proposed making the national car program a national strategic project (PSN). If this happens, the dream of having a four-wheeled vehicle with a national brand will become more certain.

Thus, in the future, it is not impossible that Indonesian roads will be dominated by local cars.

"We certainly support it and have already proposed the national car program to be a PSN. If it is approved, then everything will be prepared," he said, as reported by Antara.

He also explained that if the national car is made a PSN, the project could proceed faster than before.

It was previously reported that President Prabowo Subianto is optimistic that in three years, a local car brand will be present in the country.

He even revealed that the government has prepared funds and land for the factory's construction. Currently, the development team is said to be working on preparing for it.

He also added that Indonesia has now successfully produced a jeep-type vehicle used by officials and TNI (Indonesian National Armed Forces) officers. The car is the Maung, produced by PT Pindad.

"So now our officials and officers are not using jeeps made by other countries but are using vehicles made in Indonesia," said the President.

President Prabowo also conveyed that the use of these vehicles should be widely implemented within government and military circles.

"Soon, you all must use the Maung, I don't want to hear otherwise. Use the nice cars only on holidays," Prabowo asserted.

In general, the Maung MV3 comes with a sturdy, boxy design and features sharp angles. Its body material is ammunition-resistant, and it is fitted with B5/B6 level bulletproof glass and Run Flat Tyres, allowing it to keep moving even when punctured.

The car is also equipped with an automatic footstep for getting in and out of the vehicle. Meanwhile, the interior uses wood finish accent materials, captain seats, and is equipped with a 12-inch head unit and a 360-degree camera.

Not to be forgotten are other components to support passenger comfort, such as a cooled storage for food or drinks and a portable WiFi.
