KatadataOTO – The Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2025 is believed to be a boost for vehicle sales in the country. This is because many new models are confirmed to be launched with various attractive promotions during the event.
It's not surprising that many people are waiting for the exhibition to be held rather than buying from a dealer.
“GIIAS, which takes place at the end of July, will further enliven the market and be a boost for the automotive industry,” said Fasiol Riza, Deputy Minister of Industry, as reported by Antara (22/07).
The presence of this automotive exhibition is also expected to increase the vehicle ownership ratio in the community. According to him, for every 1,000 people in Indonesia, only about 99 cars are owned.
“Indonesia's car ownership rate is 99 per 1,000 population, we are still far behind our neighboring countries,” he said.
With the still low vehicle ownership, this presents a very open opportunity for automotive manufacturers in the country to market their products to consumers in Indonesia.
It was previously reported that GIIAS 2025 will be held at ICE BSD, Tangerang. The exhibition is claimed to be the largest automotive exhibition in the world outside of China.
“GIIAS is considered the largest exhibition in the world outside of China. Because it is attended by more than 50 brands from various countries,” said Yohannes Nangoi, Chairman of Gaikindo, some time ago.
In total, GIIAS 2025 will be attended by more than 55 motor vehicle brands. In fact, at least 7 new brands are joining. This will certainly give the public more choices.
“There are also 7 brands, both from automotive and motor vehicles, that are completely new to the 32nd GIIAS,” said Rizwan Alamsjah, Chairman III of Gaikindo.
It should be noted that car sales in Indonesia in the first half of 2025 experienced a decline compared to the same period last year. This situation certainly requires special attention from industry players.
Based on Gaikindo data, wholesale car sales in the first half of 2025 were only 374,740 units, a decrease of 35,280 units (8.6 percent) compared to last year. At that time, shipments from factories to dealers amounted to 410,020 units.
Pressure was also felt in retail sales, which only recorded 390,467 units, whereas in the first half of 2024, at least 432,453 cars were delivered to customers. This means there was a decrease of 41,986 units or 9.7 percent.
