New York Auto Show 2025 Amidst Import Tariff Turmoil

KatadataOTO – Besides the Shanghai Auto Show 2025, the auto show New York Auto Show 2025 was also held in the United States from April 18-25.

The exhibition involved hundreds of manufacturers, including four-wheeled vehicle brands and other supporting industries. Ticket prices ranged from USD 8 to USD 22 (Rp 134.5 thousand-Rp 370.1 thousand).

Amidst the economic and automotive industry turmoil, particularly due to the implementation of US import tariffs, the event became a platform for manufacturers to introduce their flagship vehicle lines to consumers.

At the Shanghai Auto Show 2025, the US electric car brand, Tesla, was once again absent, having been so since the 2023 event. The exhibition was dominated by Chinese products.

Conversely, the New York Auto Show 2025 was not filled with Chinese brands. The exhibitors were German, Italian, Korean, and Japanese brands.

There, the Hyundai booth was one of the largest. The South Korean manufacturer brought the latest Palisade, equipped with hybrid technology combined with a 2,500 cc turbocharged engine.

Hyundai's luxury sub-brand, Genesis, displayed the X Gran Equator Concept car. However, there is no information yet on when the production version will be presented to consumers.

Kia also presented a new product that attracted attention, the EV4 electric sedan. The model is a global product for the company and is equipped with a 58.3 kWh or 81.4 kWh battery.

Then, the K4 hatchback was present alongside the EV4, which had been introduced in New York but in sedan form. Lastly, there was the special edition SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) EV9 Nightfall Edition.

Meanwhile, the Japanese manufacturer that brought a new product was Subaru. There was the newest Outback and the Trailseeker electric car.

Several other well-known brands present included Chevrolet, Ford, Nissan, Volkswagen, Toyota, Audi, Volvo, Mercedes-Benz, Honda, Acura, Jeep, and Maserati.

Although not present at the exhibition, Chinese brands still showed their dominance. The BYD Seagull electric car, also known as the Dolphin Mini, received the 2025 World Urban Car award.

It should be noted that the program involves international automotive journalists. The BYD Seagull was selected from 12 candidate vehicles.
