KatadataOTO – The Japanese manufacturer, Nissan still has to fight harder to survive in the automotive industry. Especially amidst the growing flood of Chinese products.

According to a Carscoops report, quoted Sunday (27/04), Nissan is expected to announce a financial loss of about 5 billion USD (Rp 84.1 trillion) for the fiscal year ending in March 2025.

The loss is said to be the largest in Nissan's history. According to Nissan, restructuring is one of the causes of this significant loss.

It should be noted that Nissan previously held talks with Honda regarding a merger. However, the discussions did not reach a clear outcome.

The reason is that Honda wanted to make Nissan a subsidiary instead of a partner company.

To keep the company afloat, Nissan has laid off 9,000 workers, closed several production facilities, and discontinued the sale of several models.

However, Nissan, along with Honda and Mitsubishi, is committed to continuing collaboration in electrification development amidst strong competition in EVs (Electric Vehicles) from Chinese manufacturers.

Most recently, Nissan is preparing a new electrified vehicle based on the Hyper Tourer concept car. The production version will be sold with hybrid (e-Power) technology as the fourth-generation Elgrand.

Nissan's Fate in Indonesia

PT NMDI (Nissan Motor Distributor Indonesia), the official distributor of Nissan in Indonesia, asserts that so far Indonesia has not been affected by decisions such as the canceled merger between Nissan and Honda.

“I don't think the Indonesian market is affected, because our unit ordering is already fixed now,” said Caca Tobing, National Sales Head of PT NMDI, some time ago.

Nissan's sales in Indonesia are claimed to be still good, especially after the arrival of the Serena e-Power hybrid MPV (Multi-Purpose Vehicle).

To survive amidst the tight electrification competition in the country, Nissan will introduce a new HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle) model. One of them is strongly suspected to be the X-Trail e-Power e-4orce.

“In our opinion, e-Power (Nissan's hybrid technology) is the answer to the needs of Indonesian customers,” Caca affirmed.

For your information, Nissan has one BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) model, the Leaf. Then there are two hybrid models, the Serena e-Power and the Kicks e-Power.
