KatadataOTO – Malaysia has launched its first electric car, the Perodua QV-E. Perodua is a partner of Daihatsu in the neighboring country.

The Perodua QV-E electric car is sold with a battery rental scheme. The offered price of the car does not include the battery.

Perodua explained that the QV-E, which stands for Quest for Visionary Electric Vehicle, cost RM 800 million or the equivalent of IDR 3.21 billion for its development.

“Currently, we are able to produce 500 units per month. But we can offer 3,000 units per month by the end of the third quarter of 2026,” said Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad, President and CEO of Perodua in an official broadcast, quoted Tuesday (02/12).

Various features are embedded in the Perodua QV-E. For example, a system that can notify the car owner if a pet is left behind in the car cabin.

The system works by detecting vital signs such as breathing sounds in the second row and the footwell of the Perodua QV-E.

“This model is the result of the collaboration of Malaysians who united to create something unique,” said Dato’ Sri Zainal.

This 5-seater electric car targets upper-middle-class consumers, people looking for a second car or a vehicle for daily mobility.
