By Satrio Adhy
KatadataOTO – PT Pindad has surprisingly established a partnership with KG Mobility Corporation, a four-wheeled vehicle company from South Korea.
Citing a report from Yohan News Agency on Wednesday (14/05), the two companies plan to work on a national electric car and bus project for Indonesia.
“The South Korean automaker said it has signed a preliminary agreement with PT Pindad at its headquarters in Bandung, Indonesia,” wrote the online media outlet.
It was mentioned that the event was also attended by Kwak Jea-Sun, Chairman of KG Mobility, and Sigit Santosa, CEO (Chief Executive Officer) of PT Pindad.
In this collaboration, KG Mobility Corporation will provide a range of support to PT Pindad in producing EV (Electric Vehicle).
Starting from work evaluation, technology, to vehicle product engineering. So that it is ready to be marketed in the country.
“KG Mobility said this partnership is part of the company's push to expand into emerging markets,” the report continued.
On the other hand, the two companies agreed to collaborate to expand the scale of PT Pindad's national electric bus and car production project.
They are even targeting a production capacity of up to 200 thousand units in the near future.
Meanwhile, KG Mobility welcomes the partnership with PT Pindad to market environmentally friendly vehicles in the country.
“As the largest automotive market in Southeast Asia, Indonesia has significant growth potential,” said Kwak Jea-Sun.
Kwak stated that they will work hard to expand sales through different marketing and product strategies.
For your information, last year KG Mobility exported 1,060 knock-down kits for the Ssangyong Rexton sport utility vehicle (SUV) to Indonesia.
The product seems to be used as the basis for the Pindad Maung. So they plan to increase shipments of up to 3,000 Ssangyong Rexton knock-down kits to Indonesia.
As a reminder, the government had already discussed plans for the Pindad Maung tactical vehicle to become a national electric car in the near future.
“We already have the Maung, there might be further developments. We will discuss and work on it further later,” said Rosan Roeslani, Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board, to Antara.
Rosan explained that developing the Pindad Maung into an electric four-wheeled vehicle can accelerate the transition to renewable energy.
Then, it will push the automotive industry in the country towards a more environmentally friendly direction. In line with President Prabowo Subianto's mission.
