KatadataOTO – Amid the ongoing challenges in the automotive industry, Chinese car manufacturer Xpeng says it has actually received a positive response to its newest model, the Xpeng X9.

For your information, the luxury MPV (Multi Purpose Vehicle) is offered starting from Rp 990 million to Rp 1.09 billion.

Meanwhile, the second model marketed by the brand domestically is the Xpeng G6 SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle), priced at Rp 599 million.

Xpeng revealed that the X9 has dominated the booking numbers, especially after they held a mall exhibition some time ago. Unfortunately, the exact number of vehicle orders for the model could not be disclosed.

“The majority, nearly 60 percent of the orders, went to the X9, with the rest for the G6,” said Hari Arifianto, VP of Marketing for Xpeng Indonesia in West Jakarta some time ago.

He did not deny that the premium MPV segment is starting to see various competitive rivals from China. But Hari is confident that the Xpeng X9 can offer its own uniqueness to consumers.

“For example, at a price slightly above our Chinese competitors, we can provide features like air suspension. This is usually found in vehicles priced above Rp 2 billion,” said Hari.

In addition, the Xpeng X9 is also equipped with a rear-wheel steering feature, where the rear wheels can also turn to make it easier for the driver to maneuver.

“This is very unique, and these features cannot be added as accessories. This means the research and development is quite strong, making us very confident in our product's positioning,” Hari emphasized.

Facing stiff competition not only from Chinese products but also from Japan and Korea, Xpeng stated it will focus on services such as dealer networks and aftersales to attract buyers.

Furthermore, Xpeng will still hold mall exhibitions in several other potential major cities that have not yet been visited.

Regarding official dealers, Xpeng is committed to having six outlets available in various regions throughout 2025.

“We cannot be specific about the target (for dealers) because we are also observing market dynamics. But what I can say is, we will not stop only in Jakarta,” said Hari.
