Xpeng revealed that bringing flying cars to market is not easy because there are no regulations governing them yet.

KatadataOTO – Although ready to start selling flying cars, Xpeng admits it still faces various challenges. This is because there are many regulations that must be followed for the vehicle to operate optimally.
But there are several problems the company must face. Electric flying vehicles are a new mode of transportation, and there are no specific regulations governing them yet.
"When designing a helicopter or an airplane, there are clear regulations to follow. Flying cars are new vehicles, so there is a lot to be done, and we are trying our best to overcome it," asserted Wang Tan, Co-founder, Vice President and Chief Designer Designer of Xpeng AeroHT at the XPeng Global Innovation Workshop 2025 in Hong Kong.
At the event, which was attended directly by KatadataOTO, he revealed that all parties clearly want to ensure that the vehicle is safe to use.
Additionally, there are other requirements that must be met, such as the driver also being required to have a helicopter pilot's license. However, this rule is claimed to be not yet official and requires further study.
“But this should be easier to obtain compared to a helicopter license. It still requires practice, time, and passing a test, but it's still easy,” he said.
Wang Tan also added that driving a flying vehicle like the Aircraft Carrier Modular Flying Car is not difficult. A person only needs to practice for three minutes in a simulator to be able to drive it.
“I guarantee that it only takes three minutes to be able to control it. Meanwhile, to truly master it only takes three hours,” he then added.
The short training time shows that the vehicle is indeed very easy to master.
It was previously reported that Xpeng AeroHT will launch their flying vehicle, the Land Aircraft Carrier Modular Flying Car. The vehicle combines a transport car, like an aircraft carrier, with a drone that can be ridden.
With this, a person can drive using the car that acts like an aircraft carrier. At a certain point, the driver simply deploys the drone and starts flying to the destination.
Not only is it easy to use, the vehicle is equipped with various advantages for maximum performance. One of them is a fairly long flight range, yet its charging time remains short.
For a 20 km journey, the drone only requires 20 minutes of charging. These many advantages make them confident they can sell quite a lot from its first year.
