MG is preparing a new electric car named Cyber X, which features a boxy SUV design and is set to debut at the Shanghai Auto Show.
KatadataOTO – The Boxy SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) is one of the vehicle designs currently in demand by consumers. After the Chery J6, MG also intends to introduce a model with a similar shape, the Cyber X.
MG Cyber X will be launched at the Shanghai Auto Show. MG revealed that the model is the biggest innovation in the company's history.
MG has shared a teaser of the Cyber X's appearance in the form of a silhouette. At a glance, its posture looks similar to the Chery J6.
However, the additional storage on the rear tailgate is absent, and it lacks the roof rails found on the Chery J6.
The MG Cyber X is distinguished from typical off-road vehicles. Its appearance is made minimalist and sleek, as this is considered an attraction for younger generation consumers.
The front fascia of the MG Cyber X looks unique with a long horizontal LED bar and split-style headlights. Right below the LED bar, there is an illuminated MG logo.
Similar to the front, the rear area of the Cyber X also features a horizontal LED lighting system complete with a logo that is also illuminated.
Reporting from Carnewschina, Saturday (12/04), there is no detailed information yet regarding the specifications and performance of the MG Cyber X.
However, the model is believed to be built on the E3 platform made by SAIC. The E3 is specifically designed for electric cars and can be used for various types of vehicles.
Interestingly, MG is rumored to be the first vehicle brand to integrate a smart connectivity system from the renowned mobile phone brand, Oppo.
Like most recent Chinese electric cars, the Cyber X is believed to have a full suite of features supported by AI (Artificial Intelligence) and autonomous driving technology from a Horizon Robotics chip.
The technical specifications and price of the MG Cyber X will be revealed at the Shanghai Auto Show 2025, held from April 23 to May 2.
The Cyber X is part of MG's roadmap for the next three years. Besides the boxy SUV, there are about eight more new products, including a sportscar, sedans, and SUVs.
This includes a Cyberster with new color options and better performance. Then there's the new generation MG 4 EV, two electric sedans with a CTB (Cell-to-Body) configuration, and two SUVs.
In Indonesia, MG has three electric car models: the MG ZS EV, MG 4 EV, and Cyberster.
It is possible that the Cyber X will be brought to consumers in the country. Especially considering the success of a similar model, the Chery J6, which has sold more than 2,000 units at retail since its launch towards the end of 2024.
