Honda Committed to Keep Selling Electric Motorcycles Even Without Incentives

Honda will use other strategies, such as discount programs, despite the uncertainty of electric motorcycle incentives.

KatadataOTO – The electric motorcycle incentive, which was once enjoyed by a number of manufacturers in Indonesia, has yet to receive clarity as the year comes to a close.

The uncertainty of the incentive is certainly an obstacle for a number of manufacturers who rely on this subsidy to sell electric motorcycles.

PT Astra Honda Motor (AHM) is one of the manufacturers that offers electric two-wheeled vehicles, assembles them locally, and receives this subsidy.

However, since the government has not yet provided a continuation regarding the electric motorcycle incentive, Honda is trying to keep boosting sales by offering discounts.

“Of course, we will continue to market electric motorcycles. Because this is part of our commitment to provide and meet consumer demand,” said Ahmad Muhibbuddin, General Manager of Corporate Communication at PT AHM in Jakarta, recently.

It cannot be denied that the prices of several Honda electric motorcycle models are quite high, at Rp 40 million and above.

Therefore, Honda will still welcome it if the government decides to once again provide incentives for manufacturers who meet the requirements.

This would make the price of Honda electric motorcycles more competitive and accessible to consumers.

Without the incentive, there is a chance Honda will again offer massive discounts like those at the Jakarta Fair 2025 some time ago.

“Well, discounts depend on the policy, conditions, and our strategy for marketing a product. I can't say yet whether there will be more discounts later,” said Muhib.

However, he emphasized that discounts are Honda's way of giving more people the opportunity to own a product.

“I'd say it's good (the consumer response to the discount). I'm sorry I can't mention the (sales) figures yet,” he asserted.

Currently, the price of Honda's electric motorcycles is claimed to be in line with the quality offered. Such as the EM1 e:, Icon e:, and CUV e:.

Its safety standards have been adjusted to global specifications. Then, several other factors also contribute to the high price of Honda's electric motorcycles.

The battery for the Honda Icon e: electric two-wheeler line is shipped from China. Meanwhile, for the CUV e: model, its power storage is supplied by India.

The battery itself is the component with the highest cost. Because it is still imported, the price tag of Honda's electric motorcycles is automatically relatively high.
