KatadataOTO – Throughout 2025, the Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association (AISI) reported that domestic motorcycle sales in Indonesia reached 3,104,629 units.

However, for comparison, this achievement is actually a decrease from last year, which reached 3,170,994 units, or 66,365 more units.

Economic uncertainty is a challenge in the automotive industry, for both four-wheeled and two-wheeled vehicle manufacturers.

PT Astra Honda Motor (AHM), as one of the manufacturers, does not deny that there was an overall decline in motorcycle sales throughout the first half of 2025.

Honda itself also experienced a decline in sales. PT AHM revealed that the figures dropped by two to three percent.

“But we hope there will be an increase in the second semester. So that by the end of the year, it (motorcycle sales) can be more or less stable compared to last year,” said Thomas Wijaya, Executive Vice President Director of PT AHM, when met in Jakarta on Thursday (14/08).

According to Thomas, there is still a chance for domestic motorcycle sales to be in the range of 6.4 million with the potential to increase to 6.7 million units.

For context, new motorcycle sales in Indonesia in 2024 were 6.3 million units. Honda itself contributed 4.9 million with a national market share of 78 percent.

Thomas explained that a good harvest season is one of the factors driving public interest in buying new vehicles.

“Hopefully, the harvest will be better than in the first semester or even last year,” said Thomas.

Then, there are special programs implemented to make it easier for consumers to purchase new motorcycles.

On the other hand, PT AHM also continues to strengthen its services to customers to help increase sales and encourage re-purchasing.

“Besides good products and quality, excellent service is also important. That's why this year we are improving (competence) not only in sales for frontliners, but also for non-sales staff,” said Thomas.

For your information, data from PT AHM shows that Honda motorcycle sales from January to July 2025 were 2,827,975 units. This does not include the sales of electric motorcycles.

That achievement is down about two percent from sales in the same period last year.
