Honda's Response to the Electric Motorcycle Subsidy That Has Yet to Be Disbursed

KatadataOTO – The electric motorcycle subsidy from President Prabowo and his administration is still awaited by many parties. AHM (Astra Honda Motor) is no exception.

They are waiting for when the government will disburse this aid, considering it has not been provided even by April 2025.

“We are just waiting and we will definitely support whatever strategy or direction the government has,” said Octavianus Dwi, Marketing Director of AHM in Sunter, North Jakarta, some time ago.

Meanwhile, regarding the form of the electric motorcycle subsidy, which might change to a government-borne VAT (Value Added Tax), the Japanese brand said it would also be supportive.

According to them, all government assistance for the purchase of EVs (Electric Vehicles) has a good or positive purpose.

Especially since it has gone through various considerations, such as adjusting the funds prepared to disburse the electric motorcycle subsidy.

“There will definitely be a compromise regarding the budget from the government. The amount will be relative, but we will follow,” Octa affirmed.

Indeed, it's not just Honda awaiting the realization of the electric motorcycle subsidy. This uncertainty is said to have already impacted manufacturers' sales.

Interest in electric two-wheelers has declined as people hold back on their purchasing power. They are waiting for the government to provide assistance.

So they can buy electric motorcycles at an affordable price once President Prabowo disburses the aid.

For your information, the Minister of Industry (Menperin) had spoken out about the future of this government assistance.

“The electric motorcycle subsidy will be (finalized) soon, it's already being finished up,” said Agus Gumiwang, the Minister of Industry, on a separate occasion.

Agus admitted that the government is still calculating the amount of assistance to be given to the public for the purchase of electric two-wheelers.

So they cannot yet confirm whether the form of the electric motorcycle subsidy in 2025 will be the same as last year or not.

“It's still being processed and calculated, but it will definitely happen. So the electric motorcycle subsidy will be out soon,” said Agus.

A similar sentiment was also conveyed by Airlangga Hartarto, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs. According to him, President Prabowo will disburse the electric motorcycle subsidy.

Airlangga also said that the assistance policy will be implemented once the Minister of Finance Regulation (PMK) is issued.

“Yes, soon (it will be implemented), as soon as the PMK is out, the policy will be in effect,” said Airlangga.
