The weakening of the rupiah exchange rate against the United States dollar will impact the price of Honda motorcycles in Indonesia.

KatadataOTO – The exchange rate of the rupiah against the United States dollar continues to weaken. On Wednesday (02/04), it even reached Rp 16,732 per dollar.
This amount is the lowest since the beginning of this year. And the lowest point since the Covid-19 pandemic.
It is also approaching the lowest exchange rate during the 1998 monetary crisis, which was Rp 16,800 per United States dollar.
Of course, the condition above will more or less affect the automotive industry in the country. One of the effects is an increase in the price of new motorcycles.
AHM (Astra Honda Motor) has spoken out regarding the situation currently being experienced by consumers in Indonesia.
The Japanese brand is still anticipating an increase in Honda motorcycle prices even as the rupiah's exchange rate continues to weaken.
“We are maintaining the best price for consumers as well as the benefits or value for buyers,” said Octavianus Dwi Putro, Marketing Director of AHM in Sunter, North Jakarta, some time ago.
Octa further stated that the weakening of the rupiah's exchange rate will definitely have an impact on them. Such as increases in materials, production costs, and others.
However, they are still calculating how much Honda motorcycle prices will increase if the United States dollar continues to strengthen.
“The (motorcycle price) increase will depend on many factors. It's not just material costs, there are also costs for vehicle registration, BBNKB (vehicle title transfer fee), and so on,” he continued.
Therefore, they cannot yet provide certainty on whether Honda motorcycle prices will increase in the near future or not.
“The adjustment is more in that direction, so we are trying to provide the best for consumers in this difficult situation,” said Octa.
Nevertheless, Octa did not deny that the weakening of the rupiah's exchange rate against the United States dollar not only affects Honda motorcycle prices. But also spare parts.
“There will likely be an impact, but that's not the only factor. We will calculate it later,” Octa affirmed.
When asked whether the price of Honda motorcycle spare parts would increase next month or in April 2025, Octa also could not confirm.
“We are trying to hold off so as not to burden consumers,” said the PT AHM executive.
He also hopes that the current difficult situation will end soon. So that it does not bring many negative effects.
