Economist Reveals Alternative Automotive Incentives to Maintain EV Trend

VinFast electric motorcycles are scheduled to enter the Indonesian market starting in 2026, but the models remain undisclosed.
KatadataOTO – The Vietnamese manufacturer, VinFast, enlivened the GJAW 2025 event by bringing two new products, namely the VF Wild concept car and Limo Green.
However, VinFast also revealed that they have plans to introduce electric motorcycles in 2026.
It should be noted that VinFast already has several electric motorcycle models in Vietnam, such as the THeon S, Vento S, Klara Neo, and the Drgnfly eBike.
“What is certain is that for electric motorcycles, we will first introduce them under the Completely Built Up (CBU) scheme early next year,” said Kariyanto Hardjosoemarto, CEO of VinFast Indonesia, on the sidelines of the GJAW 2025 exhibition recently.
There is a possibility that VinFast will locally assemble its electric motorcycle line in the future, especially if demand is high.
However, he was still reluctant to explain further which models would be introduced to the Indonesian market.
This is an interesting point because the government has not yet provided clarity regarding incentives for locally assembled electric motorcycles. Previously, there was a price reduction of Rp 7 million for products that met the requirements.
A number of Chinese electric motorcycle brands had enjoyed the subsidy. Thanks to the direct price cut of Rp 7 million, demand had surged.
But the numbers slowly dimmed because there was no follow-up on incentives for locally assembled electric motorcycles. VinFast revealed that the presence of electric motorcycles is part of their domestic roadmap.
To support the electric vehicle ecosystem, VinFast is also developing a charging network throughout Indonesia. Their charging stations are named V-Green.
“V-Green is now spread throughout Indonesia. As of the beginning of the month, there are approximately 1,800 locations, and more are being added almost every week,” said Kerry.
He further emphasized that the V-Green team regularly expands the charging network, making it easier for VinFast electric car users in Indonesia.
“As for the target (number of V-Green stations), I cannot answer. But what I can say is that the actual number can be seen on our website right now,” he asserted.
