Car Free Night Trial Set for July 5, 2025, Here's the Location

KatadataOTO – The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government plans to conduct a trial of Car Free Night on July 5, 2025. The event will be held on MH Thamrin and Sudirman streets to celebrate the Islamic New Year.

This move is expected to provide more space for the public to enjoy the night in the Capital City.

“So later, around 10,000 Islamic students will walk from Monas carrying electric torches. The activities are to welcome 1 Muharram and trial the Car Free Night,” said Rano Karno, Deputy Governor of Jakarta (02/07).

The event is scheduled to start at 7:00 PM WIB. Several guest stars will also be present, so the possibility of congestion in several spots cannot be ruled out.

"The event will be held on July 5 at 7 PM. There will be a sermon, and performances by Opick and Gigi to liven up the celebration," he later said.

It was previously reported that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government intends to hold Car Free Night regularly. This step is taken to increase the happiness of the people in the Capital City.

Additionally, Car Free Night is believed to meet the needs of residents who want to exercise at night.

However, they acknowledged that the event needs further study as it impacts public mobility on weekends. Not only that, hotels in the surrounding area could also potentially have their revenues disrupted.

“When discussing with the Deputy Governor and the team, I stated that it must not disrupt existing events along Sudirman - Thamrin,” said Pramono Anung, Governor of DKI Jakarta, when met by the media some time ago.

Several points will also be closed to ensure no vehicles attempt to pass through the Car Free Night area. Officers will also conduct direct supervision, which is expected to prevent confusion among the public.

However, residents who wish to travel are advised to adjust their routes to avoid getting stuck in traffic. Especially on weekends, congestion is usually worse at several points.
