KatadataOTO – Several parties are competing to introduce EVs (Electric Vehicles) in Indonesia. However, it's a different story for IAMI (Isuzu Astra Motor Indonesia).
They are not yet interested in bringing electric vehicles to the domestic market. Even though this manufacturer had already showcased the Isuzu ELF EV at the GIIAS 2024 event.
“At Isuzu Japan, EVs are indeed well-studied and ready (to be marketed). But to be studied comprehensively in Indonesia, we have to look at the total visibility for commercial use,” said Yusak Kristian, President Director of IAMI in Central Jakarta, Wednesday (05/03).
According to Yusak, the charging time for electric cars is still quite long. For example, 0-100 percent takes more than an hour.
This duration is considered not yet suitable for consumers. Therefore, they are thinking twice about marketing the Isuzu ELF EV.
“From a productivity standpoint, there is a challenge that EVs will require more time to charge compared to diesel. Refueling with diesel is finished in a matter of minutes,” he continued.
Yusak also revealed that this remains a distinct challenge for electric vehicles in the commercial segment.
Considering the daily mobility of commercial vehicles is very high. Thus, it requires an even shorter charging time.
Then, the availability of charging stations is also a consideration for Isuzu in marketing the ELF EV domestically.
“The ELF operates on different routes every day. That makes it quite challenging to determine the points to place charging stations,” said Yusak.
Therefore, Isuzu is waiting for the government to prepare more SPKLUs (Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations).
“If the distribution (of SPKLUs) is complete, then we will be more ready to launch our ELF EV,” Yusak affirmed.
As a reminder, the Isuzu ELF EV comes with a new platform, namely I-MACS (Isuzu Modular Architecture and Component Standard).
It also carries a battery that is claimed to suit consumer needs. Because it is available in three options, namely two power storage packs with a capacity of 40 kWh.
Furthermore, there are also three battery packs with a capacity of 60 kWh and five battery packs with a total power of 100 kWh. So it can provide a considerable driving range.
It also offers fast charging. Consumers only need about two hours.
