KatadataOTO – Severe flooding has hit the City and Regency of Bekasi, West Java today, Tuesday (04/03). This was caused by high rainfall.
Additionally, there was an influx of water from the city of Bogor. Causing several areas there to be submerged in water up to three meters high.
The disaster has had a domino effect on traffic flow. Causing long traffic jams on the Japek Toll Road (Jakarta-Cikampek).
Vehicle buildup has been occurring starting from the West Bekasi Toll exit. Specifically from Km 13 to Km 8 of the Japek Toll Road.
“Currently, there is heavy traffic congestion due to the flooding on the West Bekasi arterial road,” said AKP Sandy Titah Nugraha, Head of the Cikampek Highway Patrol Unit of the National Police Traffic Corps, as quoted by Antara.
Sandy said that the traffic jam has been ongoing since 10:00 AM WIB. The congestion has not yet subsided.
A number of trucks and private cars were observed to be at a complete standstill, especially after exiting the toll gate.
Based on this situation, the police have implemented traffic diversions to reduce congestion on the Japek Toll Road.
“For the diversion, traffic from the West Bekasi exit is being redirected to East Bekasi via lane A,” Sandy continued.
Meanwhile, traffic from the West Bekasi Toll exit on lane B is being directed towards Jakarta. This is to help ease the vehicle buildup.
He also urged the public to follow the directions of officers in the field. This is to avoid getting stuck in the traffic jam caused by the Bekasi floods.
As the police are still finding four-wheeled vehicle users forcing their way onto the toll road.
He also requested that people without urgent needs avoid exiting through the West Bekasi Toll gate.
And to return to West Bekasi only after the vehicle buildup has cleared. This way, they can avoid the traffic jam.
For your information, the Bekasi floods have been occurring since early this morning. The BNPB (National Disaster Management Agency) has even reported that seven sub-districts are affected.
Such as East Bekasi, North Bekasi, South Bekasi, Medan Satria, Jatiasih, Pondok Gede, and Rawalumbu sub-districts.
Meanwhile, Bekasi Regency was also affected by the floods this time. For example, Cibarusah, Serang Baru, Setu, North Cikarang, Cibitung, and North Tambun.
As of now, water still inundates several areas. Relevant officers are currently evacuating the affected residents.
