Transportation development has led to Jakarta falling from the top spot as Indonesia's most congested city in 2024.
KatadataOTO – Jakarta previously ranked first as the most congested city in Indonesia in 2023. However, a survey from location technology company Tomtom shows that has changed in 2024.
Quoted from Tomtom's official website on Monday (07/07), Bandung is currently in first place out of a total of five most congested cities in Indonesia.
Tomtom revealed that the overall annual traffic index is the result of a survey of 501 cities in 62 countries globally.
Based on Tomtom's findings, the time it takes for someone to drive a distance of about 10 km in Bandung is 32 minutes and 37 seconds. Meanwhile, in Jakarta, it is 15 minutes and 31 seconds.
Then, the total time for two trips during rush hour is 108 hours per year. Bandung also ranks as the 12th most congested city in the world overall.
There are several factors that affect the level of congestion in a city. One of them is the number of vehicles not being matched by the development of road infrastructure.
The extensive development of public transportation facilities in the Jakarta area, according to the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, is said to have successfully helped reduce congestion figures.
Transportation modes in Jakarta are indeed more varied, such as LRT, MRT, Jaklingko, to KRL. Not to mention the accessibility of conventional taxis, online taxis, and online motorcycle taxis.
The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government claims it will develop new routes, especially for Transjabodetabek. Considering the high number of public transportation users.
Development is prioritized for dense areas with high demand. So it can be optimally utilized by the public during rush hours, such as when commuting to or from work.
“Indeed, we simulated all of this beforehand, we calculated the existing density. The most important thing is connectivity, the hope is that it can help people from anywhere get to Jakarta. They can use public transportation,” said Pramono Anung, Governor of DKI Jakarta, as quoted by Antara on Monday.
He further emphasized that the level of cleanliness, tidiness, and comfort of public transportation in Jakarta is quite good and not inferior to that of various other countries.
“The only problem is that the connectivity is not yet comprehensive,” Pramono asserted.
