KatadataOTO – The National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas Polri) continues to show its seriousness in cracking down on Over Dimension Over Loading (ODOL) offenders in Indonesia.
Recently, they have been relying on Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement (ETLE) cameras to detect violations.
A number of ETLE cameras have also been placed at several points. So they can monitor the movement of ODOL trucks.
“We are still in the stage of providing information and an overview. Later during implementation, there will be warnings,” said Brigadier General Faizal, Director of Law Enforcement for the National Police Traffic Corps, on the official Korlantas Polri website, Saturday (14/06).
Faizal stated that after the warning stage, the National Police Traffic Corps will carry out normalization, followed by legal action.
“In this legal action, we will utilize ETLE in several locations to monitor violations of excess load and vehicle dimensions,” he continued.
Furthermore, he revealed that over-dimension violations will be handled with a different approach because they contain criminal elements.
Officers in the field will thoroughly investigate the vehicle modification process. Including who initiated and gave the order.
As for overloading, since it is classified as an administrative traffic violation, it will be recorded and acted upon through the Traffic Attitude Record (TAR) system.
He also conveyed that the approach taken by the police is gradual. Starting from socialization, warnings, normalization, to law enforcement.
If this initial stage goes well, vehicle owners are expected to make adjustments immediately before stricter sanctions are applied.
“When we enter the warning stage, we will start applying stickers as a marker so that vehicles that need to be normalized immediately can be identified,” Faizal emphasized.
On the other hand, the National Police Traffic Corps is currently focused on socializing with logistics companies. Because some of the transport vehicles are owned by corporations.
However, although the number of individually owned vehicles is relatively small, the police still target them for education.
As a reminder, the National Police Traffic Corps has formed a special team to take action against ODOL truck violators in the country.
The team is named the National Over Dimension and Overload (KDM) team. It aims to prevent violations on public transport vehicles.
“We will not tolerate KDM practices that have long been detrimental to the state, endangering safety, and damaging infrastructure,” said Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho, Head of the National Police Traffic Corps, on a separate occasion.
Agus said that with the formation of this team, the crackdown on ODOL trucks will be more targeted, systematic, and firm.
