KatadataOTO – Many regions are currently providing relief to car and motorcycle owners. They are offering an amnesty for PKB (Motor Vehicle Tax).

However, a different decision was made by the Provincial Government of Jakarta. They will pursue people who do not fulfill their obligations.

“I am not criticizing other regions. I will pursue (defaulters), no matter how many cars they have, they must pay their taxes,” said Pramono Anung Wibowo, Governor of DKI Jakarta, to Antara on Thursday (27/03).

According to him, there are several considerations why his party is not providing a dispensation for motor vehicle tax defaulters.

For example, many people are still reluctant to pay their taxes to the government. Even though they own more than one vehicle.

“When we investigated, on average, it's the second and third cars that are not being taxed in Jakarta,” Pramono stated.

Furthermore, the condition of vehicle tax defaulters in Jakarta is different from other regions. Because they are considered economically capable.

Meanwhile, in other regions on the island of Java, people who cannot pay their motor vehicle tax tend to do so for economic reasons.

Based on the above, the new Governor of Jakarta has decided not to provide relief like other regions.

As a reminder, the Provincial Government of Central Java is offering relief in the form of an exemption or waiver of principal vehicle tax arrears and applicable fines.

The program will start running on April 8. It will then end on June 30, 2025.

“We will waive the principal PKB tax and its fines. However, with a time limit,” said Ahmad Luthfi, Governor of Central Java, on the official Jatengprov.go.id website.
