KatadataOTO – The Police have confirmed they will implement a national one-way system during the peak of the homecoming and return flows for Eid 2025. This measure is expected to reduce the risk of traffic congestion, which is predicted to occur, especially for travel from Jakarta to Central Java.
The traffic management is planned for three days before Eid al-Fitr, on March 28, 29, and 30, 2025.
“Three days before Eid al-Fitr, we will implement a national one-way system to ease congestion. A similar traffic management scheme will also be implemented during the return flow, but the schedule for its implementation will be determined later,” said Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho, Head of the National Police Traffic Corps (Kakorlantas), as reported by Antara (07/03).
The national one-way system is planned to be implemented nonstop and without breaks. This way, the flow of vehicles is expected to run smoothly.
“We have planned everything based on analysis and evaluation from last year. The goal is to ensure that the flow of vehicles can continue without obstruction,” he said.
Furthermore, the National Police Traffic Corps is also prepared to pay special attention to rest areas on toll roads, as they often become centers of traffic congestion. They will implement an open-close system to prevent vehicle density, especially around the time of breaking the fast.
“We will close rest areas when they are crowded and reopen them when the situation is less congested,” he affirmed.
Congestion generally occurs around the time of breaking the fast. Lines of parked vehicles can even extend to the shoulder of the road.
In addition to implementing the one-way system, the police will also conduct Operation Ketupat 2025 from March 24 to April 8, 2025. This operation will focus on traffic management on toll roads and highways, tourist routes, and at ferry ports to prevent vehicle congestion.
The police will also deploy at least 164,278 personnel to guard several vital points during the 2025 Eid homecoming and return flows. This number consists of 1,165 personnel from the National Police Headquarters, over 90,000 personnel from Regional Police forces, and 70,000 personnel from related agencies.
Their duty is to ensure that people in these crowded central points can complete their homecoming journey safely.
