KatadataOTO – The DKI Provincial Government has revealed it will provide relief for people who wish to travel using public transportation. This is being done as compensation for TransJakarta and MRT being unable to operate at maximum capacity following extensive damage to bus stops and stations.

Since Sunday (31/08), the transportation mode is only being charged a fare of Rp 1. With this, it is hoped that the public will find it easier to get around.

"Because that indeed needs to be fixed and it will take about a week," said Rano Karno, Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta.

He also admitted that his party has carried out repairs on several bus stops and stations that were damaged by the mob. Therefore, it is hoped that public transportation can operate normally in the near future.

"As hosts, our first duty is to protect our home. Provide services to our protesting friends, but do not damage public facilities," he said.

It should be noted that the demonstrations that have occurred in recent days have impacted public transportation services. This is because the damage to bus stops has disrupted TransJakarta and MRT services.

Not only that, a number of corridors were even forced to cease operations. Likewise, the MRT route is only partially functional.

However, DKI Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has asked all regional apparatus organizations (OPD) to resume operations of all transportation modes under the authority of the DKI Provincial Government.

"The fleet that is fully under the authority of Jakarta's BUMD (Regionally-Owned Enterprises), almost all of them are now open. Although there is some damage," said Pramono at a press conference in Jakarta on Saturday.

This decision was taken to ensure the mobility of the capital's residents remains smooth, especially as the work week begins. ?Regarding the damage to a number of public transportation facilities, he also ensured they would be repaired immediately so that public transportation services can return to normal.

This step was taken to maintain the mobility of the capital's residents and ensure the wheels of the economy keep turning. Nevertheless, the public is expected to remain vigilant when traveling as it is not impossible that further demonstrations may still occur.
